1. Calculate the average number of each color you have in the bags.
(I had 5 different colors and the average number in my 10 bags is 54).
2) Then using a chi square test – compare it to the expected value – which will be the average number in the bags divided by the number of colors you have. Use the chi square formula then to see if the distribution of colors is significantly different than what is expected.
in this case the null hypothesis is that they are evenly distributed, the alternative is that they are not – at a 5% significance level
the formula we are going to use is
(fj − ej)2/ej where f is frequency observed, e is expected
3) Using excel – make a chart with your actual average numbers – see attached.
